Objective
2. The purpose
of the award is to acknowledge excellence in the field of peacekeeping
education and training. The individual or group must
have demonstrated a unique and extremely valuable contribution
to peacekeeping education and training and to the preparation
of individuals
or groups to participate in future or current peace operations.
Rules and Regulations
3. The following
rules apply to the annual award:
a. The nominee can be anyone contributing in any way to education
and training in the peacekeeping, or related, fields – for
example, a civilian, military member, police official, specialist,
practitioner, academic, government official, or serving mission
member.
b. The nominee can be an individual or group, and can be a full-time
or part-time member of the sponsoring organisation, or someone known
to the sponsoring organisation.
c. A nominee must be proposed by an organisation and/or individual
that has participated in the IAPTC.
d. The nominee cannot belong to an organisation represented on the
current year Executive Committee of the IAPTC , with the exception
of the non-rotational members (the Secretariat and UN DPKO). Should
the Secretariat or DPKO nominate someone, then they would be excluded
from participating in the award selection process.
e. The nominee who is selected to receive the annual award, or representative
of a group if there is a group winner, will have an opportunity to
address the annual conference of the IAPTC. To the extent possible
the sponsoring organisation should cover the costs of such participation.
f. The winner of the 2009 award will be selected during the annual
planning meeting of the IAPTC Executive Committee. The sponsor will
be notified within 15 days after that meeting. The sponsor will also
advise the IAPTC annual host and Secretariat if the winner will be
able to participate in the IAPTC annual conference of that year.
g. A minimum of three nominations must be received before there can
be a selection process in any given year.
Nomination Requirements
4. The nomination should include the following detail:
a. Nominee’s name, title, position (in relation to the nomination)
and occupation.
b. A brief (one paragraph) background of the nominee.
c. The particulars of the activity on which the nomination in based,
including dates/timeframe, education and training audience, and
the nominee’s exact role in the activity. The activity should
normally have taken place in the year preceding the nomination (i.e.
for the
2009 award the activity should be a 2008 contribution). Recognition
of continuing long and special service in the field of education
and training is also possible.
d. A description of the rationale for the nomination, highlighting
the individual’s (or group’s) particular contribution,
the reason for selecting this person over others, and the education
and training impact of his/her/their efforts (no more than two
paragraphs).
e. Availability to contribute to the annual conference (optional – can
be determined later).
f. Name and contact details of the sponsoring individual and organisation.

5. Deadlines for applications will normally be 1 March each
year. The deadline for the 2009 application will by exception
be 15 March
in view of the late notification of these regulations.
Way Ahead
6. This process and its modalities, and in particular the rules
and regulations, will be reviewed during the 2009 annual planning
meeting
of the IAPTC Executive Committee in March 2009. Comments on
this document should be forwarded to the IAPTC Secretariat.
